Edo 2016: We’ll invest massively in health sector, says Sadoh, PPA guber candidate

Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) governorship standard bearer in Edo State, Thomas Amanesi Sadoh, has promised to invest in the health sector so as to achieve economic growth, saying that it is only when the populace have good health that the economy can be described as vibrant.

He promised that he will implement a policy of free health services for children under 5 years, aged people and pregnant women.
Sadoh stressed that some of the improvement he will bring forth in the health sector include the policy of upgrading existing health facilities and construction of ultramodern health facilities in strategic locations easily accessible to the populace.
On education, Sadoh said that the issue goes beyond the red roof revolution that the Oshiomhole administration pride itself of initiating.

“When you talk of education it goes beyond the issue of red roof – the structure.  We should for instance be talking of the content; the curriculum.

“Go and do your investigation. We only have 13 science teachers in the whole of Edo State Government owned schools. That is how bad it is.

“Again, look at the state of the schools. How many of them have functional laboratories. These are the kinds of questions we should be asking. But I assure you that when we come on board we are going to address these anomalies.

“Also schools in Edo State lack teachers. The last time teachers were employed was 13 years ago. Go and check the records,” he disclosed.

He stressed that about two years ago the state government asked for response from qualified personnels interested in the teaching profession.

But barely had the letter of employment been issued to successful applicants when the letters were withdrawn on the excuse that the exercise was fraught with irregularities.

Sadoh said that outside the metropolitan local government councils – Oredo, Egor and Ikpoba Okha – the state of education in the other areas is pitiable.

“If you leave the metropolitan local government areas to the hinterland you will cry for the state of education in Edo State.
“You will see that there is shortage of workforce in the schools. These are some of the things that we will have to correct when I come on board.

“It has always been said that the best legacy you can bequeath to a child is education.  What I would do is to ensure that all public office holders send their children to government owned schools.

“By so doing, such public office holders will ensure that the improvement of the facilities and the equipment in such schools will be of importance to them,’ he stated.
