Deceit in politics is now old-fashioned, Rep blasts Orji Uzor Kalu over Aba Fed bye-election

Kalu and Abonta

A member of the National Assembly, Hon Uzoma Nkem Abonta has lashed out at Senator Orji Uzor Kalu who represents Abia North for misleading the public by falsely claiming that the infrastructure currently being executed in Aba is being done by the federal government.

In a video he circulated on Sunday, Rep Abonta who representing Ukwa East/Ukwa West St House of Representatives, wondered why Orji Kalu should turn a campaign for elective position to a campaign of calumny, deceit, falsehood and wicked propaganda.

He accused Orji Kalu of deliberately spreading falsehood to sway victory for his younger brother, Maskot even when he (Kalu) truly knows that the federal government is not contributing a dime to the building and rebuilding of the internal roads and other infrastructure being built in Aba.

“I have heard the statements credited to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu that federal government is fixing and paying for the roads rehabilitation in Aba. As a former governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu ought to know the distinction between federal roads and state roads.

“I strongly advise that campaign of calumny and deceit no longer be. Let’s for once make our campaign to be based on facts, reality and sound logic. My attention was indeed drawn to that statement. Such a statement is hazardous, careless, deceitful and calculated to deceive the people.

“It means he does not understand the problem of Aba. I think that our campaign should be on facts, realty, verifiable figures. Let him tell us anywhere or any state where internal roads of a state are being done by the federal government.

“If he does not understand the workings in Abia State and Aba in particular, then he should remain silent and let those who understand the workings of Aba represent the people of Aba.

“I think that such a statement coming from him is meant to deceive the electorate. I doubt if Orji Kalu is speaking the minds of the federal government? Was he asked to say that or was he speaking from his heart? I doubt if the federal government would make such fallacious postulation.

“Therefore, if his campaign is based on fake and deceitful statement, then the right people that know the terrain and the true position of things should be voted to represent Aba. I think that the era of deceitful politics is over. If the campaign is based on deceitful campaign, you want to use that to represent Aba at national level?

“I advise the Aba electorates to open their eyes, look at the truth, look at the reality and vote in the right candidate who will represent them well. The time to act to salvage Aba is now,” he added.

Aba North/South Fed. Const. Bye-Election: Otti, Ogah Move to Stop OUK from imposing Brother

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Dr Alex Otti, Dr Uche Ogah and Mascot Kalu

All does not seem well in the camp of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State heading to the Aba North/South Federal Constituency bye-election billed to hold on March 27, 2021, as principal actors in the party have expressed strong resentment about how a former Governor of the State, Orji Uzor Kalu had “gone about alienating other leaders of the party in a desperate bid to impose his younger brother as candidate to fly the party’s flag at the forthcoming election”, one of the leaders had said.

Trouble started when Orji Uzor Kalu mobilized his machinery to hijack the national delegates that organised the party’s primary that saw to the emergence of Mascot Uzor Kalu as sole candidate after other candidates were believed to have either been excluded outright or manipulated out of the process with many not able to get nomination forms.

For example, Dr Nwokocha O. Eze, the candidate of a former gubernatorial candidate in Abia State, Alex Otti, was denied the necessary party machinery to pursue his ambition of flying the Party’s flag while several other candidates were blocked from obtaining the party form.

As if that was not enough, Orji Uzor Kalu was believed by the aggrieved leaders of APC in Abia State to have unduly influenced officials who conducted the primaries at a hotel in Aba.

” Where did he get the 47,000 plus votes he caused to be allocated to his brother when we all know that the Enitonia Hotel where the primary was held could not contain more than 500 people at once?

“We kept quiet because that is not where to make him feel the impact of exactly how we feel. We know what to do. We are no fools nor are we political infants to be so treated by one man whose desperate desire to turn our party to his personal fiefdom is nauseating and must be stopped”, one of Alex Otti’s associates said.

Another well known associate of Alex Otti had said, “People are beginning to have grave doubt as to what APC stands for in Abia State.

“Abia APC seems to belong to one man.

“A man who dictates for all. No free thoughts are allowed in APC.

“APC cannot win Aba”, he declared.

Continuing, he said, “In 2003, Orji Uzor Kalu facilitated the election of his younger brother Nnanna into the House of Representatives.

“For 4 full years, Nnanna neither raised a motion to the benefit of Aba people.

“To further punish Aba people, OUK ensured that he was re-elected in 2007.

“His 8 years was a disaster. There are no motions to his name and nobody till today can point out any project he attracted to any part of Aba.

“That OUK now wants to impose another of his younger brother on Aba is a collective insult

“Those supporting this, I have no kind words for you.

“If you ever claim to be an activist in search of good governance and you are supporting this, you have failed yourself”, he concluded.

Another party leader who is close to the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uche Ogah, lamented that the hijack of the party by OUK is ominous and does not bode well for the party in the State.

“No one is consulted in the party anymore. How can you then ask us to support your brother you imposed on the party despite the calibre of people in Abia APC? Worse still, you did not make the process open for all members. One can only imagine this kind of iniquitous impunity at the primary stage. What if OUK’s brother eventually win the main election, that means the rest of us will not breathe in the party. We know he is already planning to impose him as Governor in 2023.

“But I can assure you that such will never happen. We will let it dawn on him that no one man owns the party. APC is too big for any one man to claim its ownership. We are tired of the nonsense already”, he said.

The angst against Orji Uzor Kalu’s antics in the party is not limited to Uche Ogah and Alex Otti’s camps alone as other party leaders like Prince Paul Ikonne is also said to be upset with OUK’s highhandedness in running the affairs of the party in the State.

“This is why you can’t find any of these leaders in Mascot Uzor Kalu’s campaign train. For an election as important as this, one would have expected party leaders to attend campaigns and drum support for Mascot. But the truth is that these leaders who have the ability to make things happen are not interested because they do not see Mascot as APC’s candidate but the candidate of just one man, OUK who has been carrying about like an absolute monarch”, he informed.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Orji Uzor Kalu has perfected plans to engage hoodlums from within and outside the state to disrupt the election, attack voters, INEC officials and cart away ballot materials to rig the election.

According to sources, this was the main agenda in a meeting held at the house of Chief Emeka Wogu during the weekend where it was reportedly agreed to raise N50m to pay the hoodlums, buy weapons for them and also raise another N10m to launch malicious media attacks on Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the PDP Candidate, Hon Chimaobi Ebisike. The media attacks are expected to be spearheaded by Hon Ben Kalu while Emeka Wogu and Senator Kalu are in charge of recruiting the hoodlums.

Sen. Kalu: Gift of Democracy to Abia North – by Benjamin Kalu

Best thing that happened to Abia North Senatorial Zone was electing Dr Orji Uzor Kalu to the Senate . No senator would have been able to accomplish what he has achieved in these few months despite the six months of incarceration. Thank God the Senate leadership did not listen to wailers who wanted his seat declared vacant.

A seat many had occupied for longer period with next to nothing to show for it in the lives of our people. I am glad for boldly defending the Senate’s decision on the famous TVC interview , where I publicly told Nigerians that fair hearing was yet to be given to Dr Kalu and until he is heard at the Supreme Court , his right of appeal cannot be said to have been fully exhausted. This was when many were reluctant to speak up on this issue because they considered it sensitive .

What was more sensitive to me was the needs of the zone which he had assured me he wanted to take care of having missed a few of them as a Governor owing to the fight with the President that was in charge then . Today Dr Orji Kalu is impressively living up those promises he made to me in private and to Abia North in the public . Those in doubt should draw up the comparative analysis between him and the previous ones in their 17 months in office . You will be shocked at how well he has represented the Senatorial zone .

Ask around though we are very close and he raised me in politics but am one of his worst critics and would have told him if he was not accomplishing much as promised . Therefore, on behalf of Bende Federal constituency of Abia State who have mandated
me during the last town hall meeting and have asked me to publicly commend him for a job so well done so far and to pledge my support for future accomplishments considering his marks all around the Bende federal constituency, I hereby officially commend the Senator representing Abia North senatorial zone , Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu for changing the face of the zone within a short space of time in office despite initial challenges .

Truth be told it is not about the position as a Senator but the web of contacts he has built over the years , his wealth of good wills and his desire to bring dividends of democracy to the people of Abia North. Instead of influencing the projects out of our zone on selfish grounds he is insisting the electorates must experience the dividends of democracy from the present Government of APC. He is doing well and we are following his foot steps . No wonder the APC as a party is the most beautiful bride in Abia State today .

While we leave the big projects for him to handle we partner with him to cover the small ones . Because we are in it together ; The beauty of synergy , political cohesion and dedication to one goal under loyalty . Thanks for setting a good example for those of us that you are leading .

Abia North has not seen any thing yet , watch out for more in the coming years. We came to sincerely serve our deprived people , it is not about us it is about you the people . The people irrespective of political affiliation should encourage and support good governance, isn’t that what democracy preaches ?

I have been seen severally supporting any good works of the government of the state , where they score higher . Politics should not blindfold us away from truth and reality . Yes constructively criticise but to condemn where you ought to commend is not necessary. Does my political weight go down because I said well done to an opposition party who has scored a good point for the electorates ? The answer is no . If actually, we are in politics for the people , it should not be about self .

Often, others complain not because they are not seeing but because political blackmail is a strategic tool for them to attract a biased attention to their self centred needs over and above that of others . It is not effective once discovered, effective lobbying of the office holder is more strategic than blackmail and unfounded criticisms. There is still honour and truth in political governance remember as I have always said “ we were first brothers before we became politicians and will still be family after politics “. Therefore, let’s not destroy what holds us together first as a people .

There is no smartness in seeing the truth and politically or diplomatically speaking against it . See that Dr Orji Kalu is working and encourage him to do more for the zone rather than play to the gallery of pettiness against truth that stares in the face.

Welcome to a brief summary of the catalog of some of his numerous interventions spread across the zone in the last 17 months ( even while he was incarcerated he worked for Abia North);

Chief Whip of the Senate and former Governor of Abia state, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has endorsed former Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States of America (USA), Prof George Obiozor, to succeed Chief John Nnia Nwodo as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

Sen. Kalu who represents Abia North Senatorial district, also called on Imeobi Ohanaeze, the organization’s highest decision-making organ, to adopt Obiozor as consensus candidate.

In a statement signed by Emeka Nwala of office of the Senate Chief Whip, Kalu said he made very wide consultations with Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, his counterpart at the Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu; Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state and Engr. Dave Umahi, the governor of Ebonyi state before arriving at the decision.

He also disclosed that his call has the backing of other very prominent leaders of the southeast including Governors Willie Obiano, Hope Uzodimma of Anambra and Imo states respectively including his colleague at the Senate and Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Senator Kalu also disclosed that former Secretary to Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim; Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon Nkeiru Onyejeocha among other Igbo leaders in National Assembly are in sync with his position in support of the candidacy of Prof. Obiozor.

He said Ohanaeze Ndigbo needed a non-partisan technocrat to steer its leadership stating that Obiozor possesses all the qualities needed to revive the group.

“Ohanaeze is the authentic voice of the Igbos, which exists for the sole purpose of speaking for and representing the interest of Ndigbo since its inception in 1976. It is expected to be non-partisan. We need a leadership that can rightly define and defend the interests of the Ndigbo.

“I have known Professor George Obiozor for quite a long time ago and I am confident he will competently lead an active, mature, hardworking and viable Ohanaeze Ndigbo”, Kalu saud.

Kalu also urged all delegates from Abia state to vote for Obiozor for the good of Ohanaeze and growth of the Igbo nation.

Obiozor, a diplomat and academic, was Nigeria’s Nigerian Ambassador to the United States of America, Israel and Cyprus at different times. He was earlier at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) where he was the Director General.

He was also a coordinator for Southeast delegates to the 2014 National Conference as well as appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan as a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee for the conference.

Commenting on his interest on leading Ndigbo into a new era, Prof. Obiozor promised to “assemble Igbo talents and experts to cater and defend the destiny of Ndigbo with appreciable success and diplomatic dexterity, decency and decorum. And Ndigbo will never be victims again, of Nigerian tragic circumstances which they did not create nor can they control.”

XENOPHOBIA: Senate Chief Whip, Kalu Calls For Retaliation On South Africans, Says “Arrest Not Enough!”

The Chief Whip of the Ninth Senate , Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has condemned the attacks meted out on Nigerian people in South Africa, calling on all Nigerians to stand firm and retaliate rather than waiting on the South Africans to fish out the perpetrators, Igbere TV reports.

Kalu , a two – time Governor of Abia state in a statement issued by his Media Team on Tuesday said “the gruesome killings, looting, arson of properties belonging to Nigerians and attack of Nigerian Embassy in South Africa is ill-conceived , disheartening and wicked .

“How can any sensible

person attack and burn a fellow human being just because he or she has a feeling to do so ? Those mindless criminals who attacked and prevented law abiding Nigerians to freely conduct their businesses must be made to pay for their crimes. Arresting them is not enough “ He decried

Reports show that over 70 shops/businesses were destroyed, looted and burnt on Monday night in Malvern area of Johanesburg.

Kalu questioned the essence of the renewed attack on Nigerians adding that South Africans in Nigeria have always lived and conducted their businesses in peace .

According to him , “if the South African government do not do more to protect the lives of Nigerians , there should be no reason to allow them to operate freely in Nigeria. All their enterprises deserve to be closed down including MTN, DSTV,Shop-rite among others . In the spirit of brotherhood, we have supported them. Our doors have always been opened but it’s time we retaliate by shutting our doors.” He said

The Senate Chief Whip while commending President Muhammadu Buhari for dispatching a special envoy to the South African government urged the federal government to hasten their intervention and institute stiffer measures against South Africa over the endless xenophobic attacks.

He added that the federal government should no long be patient on invoking the United Nations (UN) law on hate and all forms of xenophobic attacks against South Africa so as to make its government take the issue seriously.

Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Union South Africa, Mr Adetola Olubajo, said on Monday that the attacks began on Sunday morning in Jeppestown area of Johannesburg when a building was set ablaze by an angry mob.

“The mob also looted several shops that were around the vicinity suspected to be owned by foreign nationals.

“But the Police later dispersed the mob and made some arrest.

“Late in the evening of Sunday, Sept. 1, a group of violent locals suspected to be Zulu hostel dwellers besieged Jules Street in Malvern, Johannesburg looted and burned shops and businesses with Nigerians being the most victims.

According to witnesses living on Jules Street, the Zulu hostel dwellers were very organised and well-coordinated in looting and burning of any shops/businesses suspected to be owned by foreign nationals.

Orji Kalu ‘confesses’ on how he brought RUGA to South-East

The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate and former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has said that he pioneered “Ruga” in Abia State when he governed the state between 1999 to 2007.

The lawmaker, who is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, at an interaction with the Senate Press Corps on Friday in Abuja, stressed that as governor, he provided land for Fulani settlement in Umuahia.

“I provided land for herders in Umuahia during my time as governor of Abia State where cattle were brought from the North for sale across the South-East and there were no problems.

“When the executive of Miyetti Allah approached my government, I chose where Shoprite is located now for them along the Port Harcourt expressway.

“One day, I took a 32-seater bus and I asked their executives to follow me to where I showed them and they agreed that it was appropriate for them and that was how I established RUGA.”

The Chief Whip also revealed that he trades in cows, saying that cow business is profiteering.

According to him, many Nigerian elite have cows and they are interested in that business, adding that it was wrong for people to see cow business as exclusively that of the Fulani.

International businessman and former governor of Abia State Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has felicitated with the Editor-in-Chief of Abia Breaking News (ABN)/OMPAN, comrade Ifeanyi Okali Ubaka on his birthday.

In a message, Kalu said as a brilliant and fine journalist, it was not just by mere coincidence that Ubaka was born on June 12, a date that would later become one of the finest in the annuals of Nigeria’s chequered history.

The eminent businessman said despite the just few steps he has taken in his life-long stretched ladder, the ABN/OMPAN Editor-in-Chief has with gait prance the journalism hemisphere with bias in the On-line gamut as a colossus; tearing to shreds self-set records and setting new ones.

You have over the short period you sojourn on planet earth, matched on triumphantly where your contemporaries failed, dwarfing in the process those things that tend to pose as problem on your way.

You have truly proven that in life, it is not how far, but how well.

As June 12, your date of birth has made history in Nigeria, so, will you continue to make history in all your life’s endeavour.

On behalf of my family, I wish you happy birthday.
