Opposition has camped hoodlums in Abia over March 27 bye elections, Abia Govt raises alarm

Abia State Government is aware of the presence of hoodlums brought in from outside the State and camped in a location in Aba since Monday, March 22, by an opposition party as part of their evil plans for the forthcoming March 27 Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency election.

Specifically, we are aware that about 200 armed youths have already been camped at a location and are awaiting deployment with fake military uniforms made available to them by an Abia born retired Army General who only recently joined the opposition party, with the intention of unleashing mayhem on the people of the state.

We hereby call on security agencies in the state and Abuja to ensure that those hoodlums already in the state are immediately apprehended while others on the way are prevented from entering the state.

Our intelligence confirms that the plan of the opposition party is to overheat the polity as a prelude to calling for full deployment of the military which will in turn create room for them to deploy the hoodlums with fake uniforms and the already procured arms.

We wish to make it abundantly clear to those behind the dastardly plot that their plans are fully known and will surely not only be resisted but also completely thwarted.

Aba Federal Constituency is one that no sane person should toy with and those planning to unleash mayhem on the people of the state will surely meet their waterloo.

We advise politicians to desist from acts capable of compounding the security situation in the country and distracting the federal government in its efforts at containing the trend.

We advise the police and military high command as well as office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to be wary of the antics of desperate politicians seeking for expansion of family enterprise even at the expense of precious lives of citizens rather than growth and unity of our nation.

Finally, we urge law abiding citizens to remain vigilant but not intimidated. They should go and vote as the government will do everything necessary to protect them and ensure that their votes count and are counted.

Thank you.

Hoodlums terrorise Ugbowo, Uselu residents in Benin with house-to-house robbery

Residents of Uselu, Ugbowo and environs in Benin City are faced with turbid times in the hands of some suspected armed criminal gangs who now parade adjoining streets and rob shop owners of their goods, kill and harrased harmless residents in broad day light operations.

With similar attacks also taking place in other areas of Textile Mill Road, Medical Stores, Okhoro, Isihor and Oluku axis during the day, it was learned that, some residents are seeking God’s intervention following the failure of police operatives to fully resume duty.

Despite battle for supremacy between cult rivalry groups who had embarked on embarrassing wanton killings of one another, hopes were gradually gathering momentum for a peaceful resolve between the groups.

Upper Sakponba had been the epicenter of the resultant clashes but with the recent presence of security joint task force there, it appears that, the fleeing suspects have taken Uselu-Ugbowo-
Medical Stores as their new abode.

The worst hit areas are residents of Good Samaritan Street,
Ediakean Primary School Road, Iyase, Ebo Junction and Etiosa suburb, who are forced to sleep early with doors closed and hallucinating similar attacks.

It was gathered that shop owners close up their shops by 4pm and resume sales at 8:30am with most areas around deserted and lonely enough for criminal onslaughts.

Commercial activities have hit all time low over incessant gun shots that had continued to rent the air at free will, resulting to killings in most cases.

Days ago, a man who was reportedly returning home from work was attacked and killed around First Federal Road with his lifeless body seen in the early hours of the following day.

According to a source, the deceased was few meters away from his place when he was reportedly hacked to death.

Similarly, a middle age furniture apprentice, who was at his furniture stall had his life was cut short by the suspected criminals who ambushed him while he was said to have gone to buy materials for a job.

A senior resident who spoke to us on condition of anonymity, said “the gang of armed robbers moved door-to-door, shooting or hacking some of their victims to death”.
According to him, “they rob traders’ shops on a daily basis. Everyday, we are afraid of the criminal elements. They move around brandishing guns and weapons of mass destruction.

“They do not only threaten their victims, but rob them of their belongings. Those children are very scary”.

“We are appealing to appropriate authorities to protect the live and properties they took oath for. We can’t sleep with our eyes closed”.

It would be recall that More than four police divisional stations across the city centre were burned recently in a peaceful protest against police brutality turned violence.

Statistics are difficult to come by, but many would say Edo State, particularly Benin City, has seen increase in crime in recent weeks.

The level of murder and robbery rates have risen since the advent of #EndSARS protest which was believed to have been hijacked by suspected hoodlums and cultists, leaving no fewer than 38 persons murdered since the cult clashes.

As at the time of filing this report, sounds from the security vehicles parading were heard moving into the flash points of the adjoining streets in Uselu to signal their presence in the danger zones as sounds of heavy gun shooting at every interval rent the air.

Akwa Ibom Govt refutes claims by Cross River Police on transportation of hoodlums

Press Release

The grave allegation by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Cross River State Command that the perpetrators of the dastardly acts of looting and arson that occurred in the Cross River State Capital, Calabar, came from Akwa Ibom is manifestly untrue and misleading.

This State Government’s position was arrived at after a comprehensive review of existing evidence by security agencies in our state. It became clear that the attacks on public and private property in Calabar was not and could not have been carried out by people who were transported from our state for that purpose, as there was no such transportation of hoodlums by water, from our state to Cross River State, as claimed by some fake reports.

There is a clear difference between an act committed by non-indigenous residents and that committed by people who are visiting for the purpose of commuting crime. The statement by the PPRO paints a picture that the hoodlums left Akwa Ibom to Cross River to commit the crime-this is false as both Naval Ships and other security agencies within the jurisdiction can attest that there was no such movement .

We are deeply concerned about such a careless statement by a Police Officer, as it has the capacity to create strife between the sister states. Moreover, We are also conscious that the now dreaded and globally condemned Xenophobia has its origin in such negative indiscretions.

We hereby restate here and for the records that, no hoodlums were loaded and transported in boats from Akwa Ibom to Cross River State as claimed by some reports and that the people who wrecked the senseless carnage in Calabar, did not go from Akwa Ibom state to commit the crime.

Stop tagging Nigerians hoodlums, Activist Eholor charges journalists

Comrade Patrick Eholor, founder of One Love Foundation in this treatise, expresses regret that journalists were describing protesters as hoodlums:

It has come to my notice that journalists in Nigeria, like the politicians, have failed us.

Recently, President Muhammadu Buhari addressed the nation with his empty speech with the collaboration of his Special Adviser on Media, Femi Adesina, who refused to adhere to the rules guiding the journalism profession that such occasions call for journalists been allowed to ask Buhari very probing questions on his scorecard so far.

If Buhari did not want to answer questions from the media he should just have released a communique and passed it to the journalists. Fairplay demands that he should have created such a room.

Also, I am very unhappy hearing and reading Nigeria journalists call some of the #endsars protesters hoodlums and thugs. Remember that a hungry man is an angry man.

You cannot call such patriots hoodlums and thugs while you paint politicians in bright colours. Is there anybody that deserves to be called a thug and hoodlum than Bola Tinubu who is getting so much money from the Lekki Toll Gate? Is anybody more qualified to be addressed as a thug or hoodlum than members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW) who forcefully collect money from commercial vehicle operators.

Journalists must be alive to their responsibility of giving us accurate report of events at all times. They should always protect the masses of the people and not the oppressors.
