Biden reverses ban on Nigeria, others, changes several other policies of Trump

The new President of the United States, Joe Biden started his first day in office by erasing some actions of former President Donald Trump.

In his first executive orders, Biden reversed Trump’s policies on the coronavirus pandemic, immigration, and climate change.

Biden canceled the ban which restricted travel to the U.S. from mostly Muslim nations.

The countries are Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Chad, North Korea, Venezuela, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sudan, and Tanzania.

At the Oval Office’s Resolute Desk, Biden rolled out 15 orders and two other action items.

Biden has made mask wearing in all federal buildings and during interstate travel mandatory.

“It’s requiring, as I said all along, where I have authority, mandating masks be worn, social distancing be kept on federal property,” the President told reporters.

He also signed orders for America to formally rejoin the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Paris climate agreement.

Biden is stopping Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s actions that cause family separation.

He has halted construction of the wall along the US-Mexico border.

Two orders aim to provide immediate financial relief to the millions of Americans who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

Biden signed another three to address racial disparities and inequities within the U.S. government and its operations.

He inked a decree directing the federal bureaucracy to conduct reviews and isolate any racial inequities in how government resources are allocated.

This dissolves the 1776 Commission, a Trump advisory committee established last September.

Another order borders on federal workplace sex discrimination protections to LGBTQ Americans.

The administration will roll out a total of 53 executive actions over the next 10 days.

Facebook, Twitter lose $51bn in value after booting out President Trump

Facebook and Twitter , the two largest social media platforms to permanently ban President Donald Trump for his role in last week’s Capitol riots, saw $51.2 billion in combined market value erased over the last two trading sessions.

Companies across sectors have responded to the president’s rhetoric in recent days by pausing political donations, making statements decrying his inflammatory remarks, and pulling products with links to right-wing movements.

Facebook and Twitter possibly took the biggest retaliatory steps when they indefinitely banned Trump from their platforms on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

Both companies cited the risk of additional violence for their bans, but investors largely balked at the action. Facebook tumbled 4% on Monday and another 2.2% on Tuesday as shareholders dumped the stock, likely fearing the ban could drive users off the platform. By the time markets closed on Tuesday, Facebook’s market cap sat $47.6 billion below its Friday level.

Twitter plunged 6.4% to start the week and dipped another 2.4% as the sell-off continued into Tuesday’s close. The declines saw Twitter’s market cap drop by $3.5 billion.

To be sure, Twitter rose as much as 2.9% on Wednesday while Facebook wavered at its previous closing level. And analysts haven’t lowered the stocks’ median price targets following the bans, signaling the slides were likely knee-jerk reactions that will reverse over time.

Other tech giants responding to last week’s insurrection have fared better through the week. Apple and Google have both climbed slightly since announcing after Friday’s close they would remove right-wing social network Parler from their app stores. Amazon shares are up 1.6% since announcing on Sunday that it kicked Parler off of its web hosting service.

Still, the actions could come back to bite tech companies in the final week of Trump’s presidency. CNN reported on Monday that Trump might retaliate against tech giants for their bans. It’s not yet clear what the president’s actions would look like and if they will materialize before President-elect Joe Biden is inaugurated.

Facebook traded at $251.70 per share as of 10:25 a.m. ET Wednesday, down roughly 8% year-to-date.

Twitter traded at $47.94 per share, down 12% year-to-date.

Trump gets 2m followers under 24hrs on Parler social app, after Facebook, Instagram blocks him indefinitely

After Facebook and Instagram blocked President Donald Trump of the United States, following an attack on Capitol Hill, his Parler account has recieved a major boost, as over 2 million people joined the social media platform just to follow him.

Parler downloads in the United States began to grow in November 2020 following the declaration of Joe Biden as president-elect.

Parler is a relatively new social media platform that is almost identical to Twitter in look and function.

Users can make posts called parleys (rather than tweets) and others can “echo” them (its version of retweeting).

You can follow people, like and comment on their posts, and send them direct messages.

After originally planning to block President Donald Trump from posting to his Facebook and Instagram account for 24 hours, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Thursday that the blocks have been extended “indefinitely.”

“We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great,” Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post Thursday. “Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.”

Breaking : US Congress Certifies Joe Biden’s Election

The US Congress has certified Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election, hours after Trump supporters stormed the building in an attack that saw four people die.

Lawmakers resumed the session after police managed to remove the mob, which had been encouraged by President Trump in a bid to overturn his defeat.

The certification clears the way for Mr Biden to be sworn in on 20 January.

In response, Mr Trump pledged an “orderly transition” of power.

Joe Biden’s victory was confirmed in the early hours of Thursday by a joint session presided over by Vice-President Mike Pence, who said the violence had been a “dark day in the history of the United States Capitol”.

Wednesday’s chaotic scenes followed months of escalating rhetoric around the 3 November election, and culminated with the invasion of the Capitol.

Mr Biden blasted the “insurrection” as Mr Trump, while telling the mob to “go home”, continued to make false claims of electoral fraud. His Twitter and Facebook accounts were later frozen.

Mr Biden’s victory was certified after objections by some Republican lawmakers to overturn the result in Arizona and Pennsylvania were rejected.

Shortly afterwards, Mr Trump said in a statement: “Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th.”

US ELECTIONS:FEC Chairman Debunks MSM Claims Of ‘No Fraud’, Says Counting Illegal Votes Can Make Election ‘Illegitimate’

The chairman of the Federal Elections Commission (FEC), Trey Trainor, said reports of voter fraud in key battleground states are credible.

In a recent interview, he pointed out that Democrat officials removing GOP poll watchers from polling locations is a violation of state law and federal court orders.

“When you have claims of, you know, 10,000 people who don’t live in the state of Nevada having voted in Neveda, you have the video…they’re (poll workers) either duplicating a spoiled ballot there or they’re in the process of marking a ballot that came in blank for a vote,” Trainor explained.

The FEC chief added, he agrees with the Trump campaign’s lawsuits and said their observers were denied meaningful access. Trainor also said questionable actions by the Democrats may render this election illegitimate.

“That’s a process that is to be observed by election observers, the law allows those observers to be in there,” he continued. “And if they’re not then the law is not being followed, making this an illegitimate election.”

In recent days, the mainstream media has continued to claim there was no voter fraud in this year’s elections, but Trainor’s statements reveal this election is far from over.

US ELECTIONS: AG William Barr Authorizes Dep of Justice to Look into Voting Irregularities

Attorney General William Barr in a memo issued on Monday authorized the Justice Department (DOJ) to look into voting irregularities in the 2020 presidential election.

The memo was addressed and signed from Barr to U.S. Attorneys, the assistant attorneys general for the DOJ’s criminal division, civil rights division, the national security division, and the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Christopher Wray.

“Now that the voting has concluded, it is imperative that the American people can trust that our elections were conducted in such a way that the outcomes accurately reflect the will of the voters,” the memo read.

Barr’s memo comes after 39 House Republicans pressed Barr in a letter on Friday to allow available DOJ resources to look into allegations of voting irregularities across the country in several key battleground states. The Trump campaign has filed a number of lawsuits in some of those states.

Barr said in his memo that, although the states have the primary responsibility to conduct and supervise elections, the DOJ has “an obligation to ensure that federal elections are conducted in such a way that the American people can have full confidence in their electoral process and their government.”

He added that while “most allegations” of purported election misconduct are of such a scale that they would not impact the outcome of an election that their investigation can be deferred, “that is not always the case.”

He said concerns that overt actions taken by the DOJ in this case are greatly minimized, since the voting has concluded.

He also said he has already authorized the DOJ to pursue substantial allegations of voting and voting tabulation irregularities in specific instances.

“Given this, and given that voting in our current elections has now concluded, I authorize you to pursue substantial allegations of voting and vote tabulation irregularities prior to the certification of elections in your jurisdictions in certain cases, as I have already done in specific instances,” he said.

He said inquiries and reviews may be conducted if there are clear and apparently-credible allegations of irregularities that, if true, could potentially impact the outcome of a federal election in an individual state.

“While U.S. Attorneys maintain their inherent authority to conduct inquiries and investigations as they deem appropriate, it will likely be prudent to commence any election-related matters as a preliminary inquiry, so as to assess whether available evidence warrants further investigative steps,” he said.

He also urged for the DOJ to exercise “great care and judgment’ and not launch inquiries on “specious, speculative, fanciful or far-fetched claims.”

He noted that his authorization of investigations should not be taken as an indication that the DOJ has concluded that voting irregularities have impacted the outcome of the election, but to ensure trust in the voting process.

“I provide this authority and guidance to emphasize the need to timely and appropriately address allegations of voting irregularities so that all of the American people, regardless of their preferred candidate or party, can have full confidence in the results of our elections,” he said.

“The American people and the leaders they freely elect deserve nothing less,” he said.

Trump Goes Golfing As US Media Declares Victory For Joe Biden

What does a president do when teetering on the verge of electoral defeat, with the entire world watching?

If you’re Donald Trump, you go golfing.

The president left the White House Saturday morning as the last crucial vote counts were about to come in from Pennsylvania and a few other battleground states.

Already trailing Democrat Joe Biden in the all-important, state-by-state Electoral College vote tally — the handwriting on the wall was becoming impossible to ignore.

So Trump, who is known for regularly hitting the links, headed across the Potomac River to the Trump National Golf Course in Sterling, Virginia.

Trump was there when the major US television networks — first CNN then NBC, CBS, ABC and finally Fox — declared that new results from Pennsylvania had pushed Biden over the top — and into the White House, come January.

He was also there when his office released a defiant statement saying Biden was “rushing to falsely pose as the winner.”

But Trump seemed determined to project a sense of serene unflappability when he finished his round in the afternoon. (No score was announced.)

Seeing a wedding couple posing for photos outside the clubhouse, the president offered to join them, videos posted on social media show.

Wearing dark gray slacks, a gray jacket and a white “Make America Great Again” basehall hat, he engaged in what seemed to be lighthearted banter.

As he stepped away, several people shouted after him: “We love you! We love you!”

Afterward, as thousands of exultant Biden supporters celebrated raucously in front of the White House and elsewhere in the US capital, the Trump motorcade made its way back to the White House.

The president had nothing else on his schedule Saturday.

One perhaps small consolation for the avid golfer: Golf Digest magazine once said Trump should be considered alongside John F. Kennedy as the “best golfing president in history.”

BREAKING: ‘The election is far from over’, Trump reacts over media’s projection of Biden as winner

United States President Donald Trump has reacted to the projection of Joe Biden as winner of the 2020 Presidential Election.

Trump in statement he personally signed, accused Biden of claiming victory.

“We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed. The simple fact is this election is far from over. Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor.”

Trump said in Pennsylvania, for example, his campaign’s legal observers were not permitted meaningful access to watch the counting process.

The Republican stressed that legal votes decide who is president, not the news media.

He said from Monday, his campaign will start prosecuting our case in court to ensure election laws are fully upheld and the rightful winner is seated.

“The American People are entitled to an honest election: that means counting all legal ballots, and not counting any illegal ballots. This is the only way to ensure the public has full confidence in our election. It remains shocking that the Biden campaign refuses to agree with this basic principle and wants ballots counted even if they are fraudulent, manufactured, or cast by ineligible or deceased voters.”

Trump added that only a party engaged in wrongdoing would unlawfully keep observers out of the count room – and then fight in court to block their access.

“So what is Biden hiding? I will not rest until the American People have the honest vote count they deserve and that Democracy demands”, the statement added.

Joe Biden projected to become next America’s president as President Trump heads to Supreme Court

Joe Biden of America’s Democratic Party has been projected to take office as the next president of the United States.

According to various news networks CNN, NBC, Sky News and Aljazeera, Biden was projected to win the 20 electoral votes from Pennsylvania which takes his tally to 273 electoral college while President Donald Trump has 214 electoral college.

A candidate needs to win 270 electoral votes to become President.

President Donald Trump however, has alleged massive fraud in the electoral process, and announced intentions to file a suit to challenge the results at the Supreme Court.

If Biden is sworn in, he will be the 46th president of the United States, and oldest so far, at the age of 78.
