MASSOB commends Southern Governors, says moves would end Islamists’ terrorism agenda

MASSOB leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu addresses members at a gathering

Leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) says it acknowledged the eloquent and bold steps being taken by the governors of southern Nigeria.

MASSOB in an electronic mail to Jungle Journalist Media Ltd, described Southern Nigeria as ‘comprising territorial lands of Biafra and Oduduwa Republics’, arguing that the move by the governors will protect the political interest and future survival of southern Nigeria regions from domination by the Hausa Fulani.

Signed by MASSOB leader Comrade Uchenna Madu, the release said the indigenous peoples are happy with the moves, and warned that people in power are colluding with Fulanis across the globe to ‘islamize Nigeria’, kill off the indigenous peoples and take over their ancestral lands, using terrorists and bandits.

It read further “The unanimous decision of the southern region governors in banning the open grazing by Fulani herdsmen and insistence on national dialogue have suddenly aroused and stirred up the frustrated anger and insensitivity of the northern leaders through Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) that opposed the position of the southern region governors Forum in banning open grazing and call for national dialogue. The ACF spits poisonous venoms against the southern region governors and declares war against the southern region.

“MASSOB encourages the southern region governors and other leaders to sustain the southern unity and brace up for the defense of their indigenous people. The Hausa Fulani people are fearful cowards, they only depend on the indigenous people of Middle Belt region to carry out their political, subjective domination, religious and economical wars against the southern region.

“MASSOB advises the indigenous people of Middle Belt region to unanimously oppose every external pressure of the Fulani oligarchy to subject them as political tools of waging war against the southern region. The indigenous people of Middle Belt region must join the southern region in their quest for political emancipation from the subjective domination of Fulani oligarchy”, Comrade Madu said in the release.

Biafra Day: MASSOB faults Buhari’s SE, SS shoot-at-sight order, says no one can crush Biafra

Comrade Uchenna Madu (in black) leading other members of MASSOB duinrg a rally

Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has described President Muhamadu Buhari’s directive to the army to shoot unknown gunmen at sight as an exhibition of insensitivity and cowardice.

MASSOB, while reacting to the order, stated that deployment of Northern soldiers to carry out the assignment is genocidal, and will bring more disaster to the Nigeria.

Uchenna Madu, Leader of MASSOB further said “President Buhari and his Fulani cabals in their inner sense of reasonings believe that with their kinsmen occupying the military positions of service chiefs including all the most senior military high rank offices/ positions, they will easily crush Biafra, maybe with their intimidating tendencies over Igbo governors, national assembly members, religious/ opinion/political leaders, they still think they can crush Biafra with the mindset of 1967–1970 Biafra Nigeria war.

“Buhari’s military civilian administration is the worst government Nigeria ever experienced, his leadership style of enforcing & imposing Islamic Hausa Fulani agenda on the rest of Nigeria people is tremendously assisting and justifying our struggle for Biafra actualization, Buhari’s stubbornness and Islamic fundamentalism against the Christian Southern, Eastern & Middle Beltan regions have reawakened the consciousness & thought of future survival of the people of this regions.

“MASSOB want Nigerian President Buhari to continue to make similar blind mistakes which always expresses his frustrations. Any king who thinks like Pharaoh of Egypt against the Jews will certainly experience the doom of Pharaoh.

“No man born of a
woman can crush Biafra because God, history and humanity are on our side. The Biafra revolution is indestructible.

“MASSOB wishes to inform President Buhari that deploying his Nigerian military Fulanised soldiers to Biafra land to carry out his shoot at sight order, arresting and detention of non violence Biafra freedom fighters. killings, persecutions, mesmerizations, suppressions and oppressions of Biafrans including clampdown on non-violent and unarmed agitators because of our agitation for self rule only worsens the problem and underscores Nigeria as repressive colonial state.

“President Muhamadu Buhari and his cabals are jittery because of Biafra day anniversary celebration coming up on May 30th. The massive presence of Hausa Fulani soldiers deployed to Biafra land will never stop or frustrate the Biafra day anniversary celebration.

“Biafra agitating groups are not the problem, the Nigerian state as constituted is. Biafra agitation is only a reaction to the many injustices, exclusion, second class citizenship, born to rule philosophy, marginalization and other forms of inequality that characterise the Nigerian state”.

Mbaka narrates what transpired between him and Bishop Onaga of Enugu Catholic Diocese

… Pray for Church vandals, Enugu Bishop charges Diocesans

By Dennis Agbo

Leader of Catholic Adoration ministry in Enugu, Rev Fr. Ejike Mbaka has narrated what transpired when he was allegedly detained for 24 hours by the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev CVC Onaga.

Mbaka stated that the Bishop did not kidnap him as speculated, but that the meeting he thought was a private one turned out to be a predetermined meeting with many consultants in attendance.

He also disclosed that he went for the meeting with the Bishop so that his adherents would not become violent as it turned out, adding that the agenda of the meeting was to shut the adoration ministry and silence him over his altercations with the Mohammadu Buhari-led federal government that was once his fancied administration.

Meanwhile, Bishop Onaga has asked all parishes, Chaplaincies and religious houses in the diocese to pray for atonement and reparation of violet protesters, who destroyed the Bishop’s court and parts of the Holy Ghost diocese cathedral in Ogui Enugu, on Wednesday.

The protesters were suspected followers of the Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka who unleashed violence on the catholic structures while searching for their leader, Fr. Mbaka, who was allegedly detained by the Diocese at the instance of Bishop Onaga’s summon on Tuesday.

Fr. Mbaka was however released when the protesters turned violent and he rejoined his stream of followers on Wednesday.

In a directive to members of the Diocese, on Thursday, Bishop Onaga said that “the followers of Rev Fr. Ejike Mbaka violently broke into the diocesan cathedral and desecrated the holy altar of sacrifice. Over and above this, they brutally vandalized the diocese Bishop’s residence, the cathedral parish house and the secretariat building complex.

“Therefore, I hereby declare and call for one week union of prayer in reparation and atonement for this heinous act against our central place of worship and the sanctity of the church.”

Bishop Onaga directed for the prayer to begin from Friday, 7th May 2021and obliged every parish, Chaplaincy and religious community in the diocese to participate in the holy activity.

He noted that in addition to the traditional May devotion prayers, such as daily benediction, prayers such as five decades of Holy Rosary, Act of Reparation to the Most Blessed Sacrament, Psalm 51and 23 are to be offered for the purpose.

“I enjoin you to remain sober and keep the diocese in prayer. With divine assistance and grace, we shall overcome this challenging moment. May our Lady Queen of Mary intercede for us, Amen.”

Narrating his ordeal after he rejoined his followers, Mbaka said: “I appreciate your patience, endurance, incomparable love, unquestionable solidarity and unique identification and commitment to God in this ministry. God will keep you; God will bless you and shall be well with you. This is a journey you people started in the morning. You people have been waiting for me, look at me here. We give glory to God for everything.

“I wasn’t with my phone because I decided to go in and pray to avoid disobedience of any kind. The miracle is that it was the time I was with my phone that calls were coming from here and there that you people are heading from Adoration to Holy Ghost Cathedral and Bishop’s house and I immediately asked the group that I spoke with to please go back and they insisted that they must see me on video otherwise they will not go back. So they put in a video call and saw me blessing them.

“I never knew that there were over 40 other groups. I thought that with the blessing of the first group, that it is over. I asked them to please go back and be praying for me. It was in the afternoon that I started receiving calls; I told them that I cannot go anywhere unless I hear from my Bishop because the DSS people are not involved in what happened. Nobody should attack the wrong person and Bishop did not kidnap me either but the Bishop gave an order that I should not be coming here from yesterday, I should leave my house, the Adoration house, that there should be no program for 30 days that I should leave in silence for 30 days.

“I am giving you the truth of what happened. so why I’m saying this is that Bishop eventually came and asked me to go and tell you, people, to go back and that you people have started destroying his house and things were getting out of hand. Then I asked him what did I tell him about the people yesterday? Because the truth of the matter is that no one should accuse the wrong person. I was invited to a meeting which I attended. I thought I was invited to be in a meeting with my Bishop, I never knew it was going to be a meeting with a team of consultants.

“So, I went for the meeting so that you people should not destroy anything. This is Catholic Church, I am in charge of the church and we all belong to the church. So I would like everybody to adopt peace, love and with the Bishop telling me now to go and bring you, people, back to Adoration, but I asked him, my Lord Bishop, what will I tell them? So, he said I should take you, people, back to Adoration first.

“This is why people should understand how God works. I never disobey the church. People are busily misquoting me for doing everything to close this ministry but by the grace of God, they cannot do anything. Why I’m saying this is because if you don’t know the truth, you will not know how to defend yourself. I don’t know what happened in the background and what led to this but what I understand was after meeting with a team of consultants, I won’t begin to tell you who said this and that but the Bishop asked me to stay out of Adoration ground for 30 days and be silent for 30 days.

“The only thing I am not happy with is that if the Bishop wanted it to be secret he should have called me one-on-one. Did you know that before I reached Bishop’s house, the conclusion of the meeting had already been reviewed and I came in there with the hope that the meeting was to be held? Those who were there had already bragged that this is the time they will show Mbaka that the Adoration has been closed down, that Mbaka will not come here again. It was so painful and today was the day I was shot and I did not understand it because I thought it was a meeting of a father and son.

“My question was, why am I being punished because I said that insecurity is in the country, is it not true? And that the government should provide jobs for the youths because it is the unemployment that led to bandits, terrorism, and a lot of people don’t see the food to eat in the country. What did I say that is not happening in the country?

“What did I say that brought the issue of stopping the ministry? What surprised me is for people to tell me who to bless and who not to bless. I am a priest ordained to bless. I can’t understand why people should be angry at me for blessing Nnamdi Kanu. Go and attack God who is giving him life, attack God who is blessing him. Go and kill and punish God for giving him life. The person accusing Nnamdi Kanu, are you better than him? Is it your blessings? If I bless him and you want to curse him, you can go ahead.

“I can remember that on Sunday, I suggested that the federal government should summon the meeting of Bishops who have the capacity to bring the situation in the country to calm. What Am I being punished for?

“I am saying this so that when the world hears this they will not say that I am attacking anybody. Now I asked a question, you know hundreds and thousands of people attend “E no dey again” who will take care of them in the issue of not attending Adoration for 30 days. The issue is gone, no more Mass until 30 days. The issue is that if you want to punish Fr. Mbaka, you should not give him a mask that is not his own.

“I am using this opportunity to ask everybody to undertake what the Bible says, don’t touch my anointed and do my prophet no harm. For those talking about contracts, I have enough contracts from the Holy Ghost. I have contracts of healing, I have contracts of deliverance. I have the contract of inculcating holiness. I have the contracts of worshipping and praising God and the major contract is the contract of soul-winning through charity.

“I also have the contract of worshipping the Blessed Sacrament and the contract of giving hope to the people. I have the contract to perform miracles because God performs miracles here. I have the contract of making myself available to be used by God and to be an instrument of God in any possible way.

“They will just sit down in their houses to say what they like without coming here to see what we are doing. It is an error. I will never support anyone who attacks the church and that’s why I heard the voice of Bishop Onaga and ran out from where I was to calm you people. So I asked him a question, what about going to my house, can I go, because I don’t want to disobey the church. But if you are punishing someone you should know the ripple effect of the punishment.

“How can you say that Fr Mbaka is nobody? Someone who spends his life working for the church? Someone who spends all he has on charity, someone who stands as a magnet of souls. Everything I have is for charity and for the church’s progress. Then if I open my mouth and say that the youths are suffering then I will be punished. If I open my mouth to say that the government of the day is not doing well they will punish me.

“All those who are criticizing me will get to see the effect of what I’m saying. If you say that good is evil and evil is good then you will reap the effect. That is why we are here tonight. We have never been here on Wednesday night. Please, if you want to bless anyone bless him or her. You don’t have to tell me who to bless. Why are you dictating for me who to bless? Are you the owner of the blessing? Do you own the blessing in my mouth? Do you know how many oil wells of blessings that I have? Will I finish releasing them before I leave this world? So if you love someone goes ahead and blesses the person. I am not you, you can never be me. I am a servant of the church; you are also a servant of the church.”

May 30: MASSOB to celebrate 2021 Biafra Day, directs all markets, schools, banks, public offices to shut down

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has announced that they will observe the 2021 Biafra Day celebrations with a Sit-at-Home, on the 30th of May, 2021.

According to a Press Release signed by the National Director of Information of MASSOB, Comrade Samuel Edeson, the decision was taken at a National meeting of the organisation in Enugu earlier today.

The pro-Biafra group in its declaration, argued that they will never change the ordinances of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, leader of the Biafra nation.

According to the release, “Ojukwu declared the Republic of Biafra with the total consent and full support of the elders and the people of Biafra on May 30th, 1967.

“MASSOB have no intention or plan to observe our fatherland anniversary celebration on any other date except on May 30th because May 30th is sacrosanct and sacred to the history and lives of Biafra Republic.

“The ordinances of our great leader, General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu must be jealousy and eloquently adhered to, any attempt to change it by disgruntled persons will be strictly resisted.
“MASSOB directs the people of Biafra to observe a special prayers and supplication for the fallen Biafra heroes during the Nigeria -Biafra war and our comrades that were killed by Nigeria security agents including the people of Biafra that died in the hands of Islamic Boko Haram and Fulani terrorist herdsmen.

“MASSOB directs all markets, schools, banks and all other public offices in Biafra land to observe the sit at home exercise as a mark of respect for our fatherland

“In spirit of brotherhood and Biafranism, MASSOB will collaborate with other Pro Biafran groups that have unanimously agreed and resolved to jointly observe, commemorate and celebrate the 54 years anniversary of Biafra declaration by our foremost leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu on 30th May, 2021.

“This year’s anniversary will be celebrated by the people of Biafra not as a pro Biafra group, it is a mark of respect and honour to our father land, it is also a reminder to the visions and commandments of our great ancestors that we are not Nigerians but Biafrans.

“We enjoin our people to get ready for the celebration of this great anniversary which will hold to remind ourselves to continue the self determination movement for Biafra actualization and restoration”, it declared.

Withdraw sanction, fine against Channels TV now, NUJ tells NBC, Says NBC code inimical to free speech

The National leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to, as a matter of urgency, withdraw its sanction and fine against Channels Television.

In a Press Statement signed by the President of the NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo and made available to Jungle Journalist Media Ltd, the NUJ advised the Commision to exercise more restraint in dealing with what it sees as infringements on the broadcast code, which it said is inimical to free speech.

The Statement read in part “We call on the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to exercise more restrain in dealing with perceived infringements by broadcast stations in the country.

“We are specifically disturbed by the recent threat to suspend the broadcast licence of Channels Television Station for hosting the Spokesperson of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in a live interview programme. The fine imposed on Channels TV is outrageous and should be withdrawn immediately.

“While we do not intend to join issues with NBC, we however caution that threats like this will only create unnecessary feuds in an already cracked society. At this very difficult time in the history of the country, what the nation needs more from the broadcast regulator is to create an avenue for more unfettered access by all Nigerians to independent and free media to engage with other stakeholders, even when it is to vent their anger and frustrations.

“It is pertinent, in view of recent sanctions on various broadcast Stations by NBC that the NBC code is inimical to free speech and press freedom and should be amended to be compatible with international best practices.

“We call on media houses to be circumspect in their work so as not to play into the hands of overzealous politicians to destroy the Nation’s democracy. It is also instructive to note that no matter the perceived excesses of the media, they still are germane in the quest for genuine democracy and should be carefully nurtured and protected”, it noted.

THREAT TO PRESS FREEDOM: Nigerian Guild of Editors condemns NBC action against Channels TV

PRESS STATEMENT ON NBC LETTER TO CHANNELS TV

The Nigerian Guild of Editors condemns in strong terms the threat issued to Channels Television by the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, over an interview with the spokesperson of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Emmanuel Powerful.

Powerful had featured on Channels programme “Politics Today” on Sunday April 25, 2021 , where he allegedly made inciting statements.

The NBC in the letter ordered the immediate suspension of the programme.

The Guild will not stand by and watch media houses being threatened by regulatory agencies in the country.
Press freedom is threatened when media houses are made to operate in an atmosphere of fear.

The Guild stands with Channels and will go to any length to defend press freedom in the country.

The body of editors believes that the NBC is guilty of double standards because stations that carried Sheikh Gumi’s parley with terrorists in their camps, were not sanctioned by the commission.

The NBC should jettison the practice of issuing threats to broadcast stations over matters that could easily be dealt with through dialogue.

Democracy will be meaningless in Nigeria if press freedom is eroded.

Terrorist Attacks In Igbo Land Are Being Sponsored By Federal Government- MASSOB

The leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has accused the government of President Muhammadu Buhari as the one behind incessant criminal terrorism and security detoriation in Igbo land.

According to Comrade Uchenna Madu, Leader of MASSOB, the whole killings and destructions going on in the entire South East are being masterminded by bandits, who he said are working in connivance with FG, with the sole aim of militarily intimidating Igbos after destabilising government structures.

These accusations are contained in a Press Statement he sighed, and made available to Jungle Journalist Media Ltd through electronic media.

It read “These acts of criminal terrorism by the so called unknown gunmen being perpetrated in our land against government facilities, security agents and some prominent individuals are being sponsored by enemies of Ndigbo.

“MASSOB condemned the terrorist attack against Chukwuma Soludo at Isuofia, we equally condemned the unwarranted killings of Ebonyi state indigenous citizens by Fulani terrorist heardsmen. MASSOB condemned in totality, the breaking of Owerri prison by the so called unknown gunmen.

“Through MASSOB intelligence Agency, we found out that all these attacks are being sponsored and executed by federal government of Nigeria through their protected militiamen called bandits and unknown gunmen. Their primary aim is to discredit non violence pro-Biafra freedom fighters like MASSOB and IPOB. They want to create an erroneous impression that pro-Biafra agitators have turned violent and militancy.

“How can untrained men and amatures with no military training overpower the entire security apparatus of Nigeria in South East? Why is it that there was no security resistance during the breaking up of Owerri prisons and Imo State Police Headquarters in an operation that lasted more than one hour?

“Nigeria military cantonment, Obinze Owerri is seven minutes drive to the scenes of the crime, Imo State MOPOL base is three minutes drive to the scenes of the crime but no resistance from security agencies.

“The terrorist attacks in Owerri are part of the ongoing destructive measures by the President Muhamadu Buhari led administration to discredit and blackmail the pro Biafra organizations to create an erroneous impression that Biafrans are waging war against Nigeria. Igbo land is the most peaceful and unterrorised region.

“MASSOB advised Governor Hope Uzodinma to stop heaping blames on IPOB or ESN or any other pro Biafra organization. Pro Biafra agitators are not responsible for all the terrorist activities in Igbo land. President Muhamadu Buhari and his Fulani cabals are responsible. The Fulani commissioners of police and military chiefs in Igbo land are partners in these terrorist activities in Biafra land.

“They will never stop until they achieve their desired aim. More destructive attacks will still come unless Southeast governors and other political, traditional and opinion leaders of Igbo land quickly convened a security meeting where critical stakeholders will put a a lasting strategy that will stop these devastative implosion coming to Biafra land.

The federal government of Nigeria led by President Muhamadu Buhari is plotting to militralise the entire Biafra land in disguise of searching for pro-Biafra agitators. They are planning to intimidate and inflict fear on our people to frustrate Ndigbo from clamouring for2023 presidency”, he said.

The suspension of Channels TV by Professor Armstrong Idachaba led NBC, as it stands is not just draconian, illegal and to say the least, but also is an impediment to free speech/and freedom of the press coupled with breach of citizens right to receive and impart information.

More importantly, this is coming at a time there are serious issues that the NBC should concerned itself with.

Ikonso Don Will Be Buried With Heads Of His Killers, Nnamdi Kanu Vows As He Threatens To Kill Security Operatives

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has said that the Second Commanding officer of the Eastern Security Network, E.S.N, Ikonso Don will be buried with the heads of the security operatives that killed the Biafra agitator.

Nnamdi Kanu in a statement released this morning and yesterday, insisted that Ikonso Don was killed in his sleep without shootout.

The Nigerian Army said it lost one lieutenant, and the Nigeria Police Force lost three men of the Police Intelligence Response Team during gun battle with the Biafra agitators on Saturday morning in Imo state.

The Nigerian Army said the joint security operations comprising men of the Nigerian Army, Police Intelligence Response Team and Department of State Services, D.S.S was successfully carried out with the killing of Ikonso Don and six others; adding that Ikonso Don and his team are responsible for the recent attacks on security formations in the eastern states.

According to Nnamdi Kanu, Ikonso Don was killed in his house at the middle of the night without any shootout.

Nnamdi Kanu therefore insisted that the Eastern Security Network Deputy Commander, Ikonso Don will be buried the heads of his killers.

Nnamdi Kanu said in quote:
“Our enemies should know that assassination makes only MARTYS not converts. God is with us.

“There was no shootout, Ikonso was killed in his house, he was killed while he was sleeping in the middle of the Night

“We shall bury him like an Oba with the heads of his killers.

“Let them get ready!

Insecurity: IPOB has placed a death sentence on South-East governors, says Ikpeazu

By Sanni Onogu/Bolaji Ogundele, Abuja

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has allegedly placed some Southeast governors under the death sentence for yet to be undisclosed reasons.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, who made the allegation yesterday in Abuja, said he is one of those under the IPOB fatwa.

He spoke on a day his Imo State counterpart, Hope Uzodinma, accused opposition elements of sponsoring the recurring violence across the country for the purpose of discrediting the Buhari administration.

Ikpeazu, speaking during an interactive session with youths and women under the auspices of the “TOS Foundation Youth and Women for Good Governance” initiative, organised by The Osasu Show (TOS) Television Network, in Abuja, on Thursday night, did not say why IPOB wants him and other Southeast governors dead, but said he does not subscribe to the style or strategy of the leader of the group, Nnamdi Kanu.

The governor said although some of the issues being raised by Kanu are valid, his strategy leaves much to be desired.

“People are beginning to think now that some of the issues raised by Nnamdi (Kanu), if they are issues of injustice, marginalisation and inequality, any part of society have a right to begin to feel cheated or unwanted,” he said.

“So, some of those things which Nnamdi said are valid. Some of us can see them. We cannot continue to hide behind a finger.

“But some of us do not subscribe to his style or strategy. Because I do not understand where he is going and how he is going and when he plans to pull the brakes and what he wants to achieve.

“If I have a way of conveying my views to the leadership of that group, what I will say is they should find a way to enter into conversation and let people know.

“I am under their fatwa now and some of my brother governors. They say if you see them kill them.’

He accused IPOB of “fighting in the kitchen.”

He added: “by the time the war in the kitchen ends, mama’s pot of soup would have spilled, there will be no plates to eat and everybody would be hungry and eventually it would not serve any good purpose. I don’t understand their strategy.

“I don’t understand what they want to achieve and I don’t understand why they prefer to attack institutions of civil rule.

“A lot of people who are apologetic to their strategy do not even know that they are riding the tiger because if the police and the military withdraw and brigands become the enforcers of law and order, if you have a little quarrel with your brother, how do you resolve it?”

On how to tackle the security challenges in the country, he said: “I would like us to address the insecurity issue in Nigeria holistically. I don’t want to look at the insecurity in the Southeast as opposed to the one in the North-west or North-east.

“The problem of insecurity in this country is as a result of the fact that the security admix of our country, which we inherited from the late sixties or early seventies, focuses more on spending on boots on ground, arms and ammunition.

“That may be good, classically speaking, but if you are fighting an asymmetric war, which is a war that is faceless, what you do is to change the arrangement and the ratio should be 65 per cent intelligence gathering, research and development and only 35 per cent for boots on ground because if you have not given intelligence to the boots on ground who are they going to battle?”
Uzodinma: Violence aimed at distracting attention

Governor Hope Uzodinma whose state, Imo, has come under attacks from gunmen and arsonists lately, claimed yesterday that the current spate of violence across the country is being sponsored by the opposition for the purpose of discrediting the government.

He asked the security and intelligence agencies to expose the brains behind the gale of banditry by publishing their names.

Emerging from a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja, Uzodinma told correspondents that the sponsors of the violence were engaging in a diabolic version of politicking, which he described as anti-people.

He said about 50 suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent attacks on police and correctional facilities in his state, and alleged that those attacks were carried out by a mix of persons from within the state, other Southeast states and non-Igbo.

He urged Nigerians not to allow opposition elements to destroy the unity and diversity of the country, which he described as a blessing from God and the strength of the nation’s unity.

“I don’t think I will support any call for secession, I want a united, strong Nigeria. Our strength is in our diversity and today, we are supposed to play a leading role in this continent,” he said.

Continuing, he said: “We don’t want to whittle down our strength. Rather, what I advise is that we must appreciate the gift of nature in our land and support the government. Listen, let me tell you something, this country is blessed by God.

“From 2015 till today, I thought what the problem would be is people saying there’s no job creation, people are not feeding, salaries are not paid, infrastructure is going down, social interventions are not approved by the government. These things are there, available, a pass mark for the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Now, people are no longer talking about that; rather what they are doing is to sponsor crisis, to the extent that those funding this banditry are politicians, which I challenge and call on security agencies to make their names available to the press because what they want to do is to distract a government that is focused.

“If this government is not doing well, I’ll be one of those that will declare the government as not doing well, but a situation where you’ll leave the formal way, ethical way of doing politics, and you are now sponsoring banditry to bring down a government… for Christ’s sake, we should rise up and condemn it, all of us.”

On the attacks on police stations and the correctional facilities in the state, the governor said they were carried out by people from within and from outside the state.

He said: “some of those arrested by security agencies, some of them are not from Imo State or the Southeast. It was a combination of those within the state and those from outside the state. At the last count, we arrested almost 40 to 50 people, who also made useful statements and confessed to the crime.

“I continue to tell you that this issue of banditry is something that we must all rise up as people to condemn and then support security agencies to be able to provide an enabling environment for people to go about their businesses, without fear of any molestation.

“The job of security of a country cannot be left to security agencies alone. The job requires the citizenry to support security agencies through intelligence gathering, also government at all levels, including traditional leaderships, to support government because the bandits stay among us, the criminals live among us and if we’re not in a position to report them, or report their activities to security agencies, then we are undoing ourselves.

“So I encourage everybody to see this as a collective challenge that all of us must join hands; whether you are from the local government, community level, to state, up to the federal government; we must join hands because we don’t have another country. The only country we can beat our chests and call our own is Nigeria and we must work towards ensuring that the integrity of our country, the security situation in our country, is such that allows people, residents and citizens to go about their businesses without the fear of molestation

“Any problem anywhere, in any part of the country is also a problem everywhere in the country. Today, it may be Imo State; you don’t know when it will be your own state. So, if we don’t come now and nip this thing in the bud, it means that one day we may not have a country. So, let us defend our country; it is very important.”

The governor, who said he visited the President on the issue of security in Imo State lauded Buhari for showing genuine concerns for the people of his state.
