Man opens his father’s skull with an axe, buried corpse in standing position

Police operatives attached to the Enugu state command have apprehended one Johnson Ogbu for allegedly hacking his 64-year-old father, William Ogbu, to death with an axe, at Aji Community in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of the state.

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that, the suspect, Johnson, one of the deceased 5 children, was mentally ill a few years ago but got treated and later became a shoemaker. Johnson lived with his parents in their home in Umuidenyi.

It was learnt that on the day of the incident, Johnson’s mother left their home to join other villagers to celebrate the Umuidenyi clan day at the Umuidenyi Town Hall. It was in her absence that the suspect allegedly used an axe to break his father’s skull, killing him on the spot. He allegedly dragged his father’s body to a nearby plantain plantation and dug the ground where he buried the corpse.

It was alleged that Johnson’s mother who came back later asked her son the whereabouts of his father and was informed that the man was sick and had gone to see a doctor without mentioning any particular clinic where he had gone to seek medical attention.

She told newsmen, “We looked for him for three days, combing all the hospitals around. It was when we failed to locate him that we alerted the members of the Aji Neighbourhood Watch Group, which in turn alerted the police. The police arrived on Friday morning alongside members of the neighbourhood watch and later found a shallow grave near the compound where William was buried in a standing position.”

She told newsmen that her son used an axe to break the skull of her husband, she also said that he used another sharp object to open his father’s belly and puncture other parts of his internal organs.

Meanwhile, the suspect Johnson, is currently being detained at the Enugu Ezike Police Station.
