The Delta State Government says an attack by robbers around the Government House annexe in Warri last week was not a robbery of the annexe.
In a press statement signed by Mr Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the government said there was a need to set the records straight, with several news media saying the annexe was attacked by armed men on Thursday,4th August, leaving one driver dead.
In his clarification, CPS said; “the incident was not an attack on Government House Annex Warri, but a robbery incident that occurred when a driver attached to the Delta Waterways Security Committee Chairman, Chief Boro Opudu was trailed by armed robbers while returning from the bank.
“The driver gallantly made his way to the Delta Government House Annex in Warri but sustained serious gun shot wounds on his way back to the Annex and subsequently died while he was being rushed to the hospital.
“The robbers could not make away with the money he was carrying because the security operatives was able to repel the rampaging robbers before they got to the government house Annex, Warri.
“While we regret the loss of the driver, two of the three robbers were arrested by the military while one was arrested by the police”.
